When:

March 21-23, 2014 (Friday-Sunday)

March 20th (Thursday is an optional extra day)

What:

Learn new bag making skills from experts Sara and Kristin!

There will be plenty of open sewing time (the sewing room never closes) so bring your own projects as well! We’ve had campers finish large quilts and entire summer wardrobes during their free sewing time...just be sure you bring enough projects to keep you going!  The optional day on Thursday will not offer any classes, just 24 extra hours of sewing time with some cool new friends!  You have to be signed up for the weekend to come to the optional Thursday.

The classes we are offering are NOT required!  There is plenty of room at the Hankerd Inn to set up a sewing space or hang out with some hand work and chat with friends.  This is your vacation!  We all want you to relax and get things done (or not!)  There is enough space for everyone in each of the classes so if you do want to take all of them you can, no sign ups needed and no extra charge for the classes.   We will be sending you a materials list in plenty of time to get the fabric required for classes.

Classes:

This Spring is all about bags.  And we have two amazing Camp Counselors coming from out of town to teach us these amazing projects.

The top bag, the aptly named Camp Stitchalot bag is an awesome pattern by author and blogger Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness!  Sara is the author of Big-City Bags: Sew Handbags with Style, Sass, and Sophistication and has many other awesome bag patterns available!  Sara is going to talk to us about interfacing 101 and while making the Camp Stitchalot bag, you will learn about sewing with clear vinyl, installing a magnetic clasp, zippers, and bias tape.  You DO NOT need to be an expert bag maker to learn this bag.  Sara and our helpers will be able to help any confident beginner through this bag.

Kristin Link from the awesome sewing blog Sew Mama Sew is going to teach us how to make her new (designed especially for this Camp!) Tackle Bag!  Not only are there many good uses for this versatile bag (dopp kit, sewing supplies, art supplies...) but you learn several techniques for installing a zipper including a welt pocket on the inside.

Please note: camp teachers sew alongside the campers all weekend and are always happy to help with projects or chat about their favorite techniques.  The class topics were selected to give campers a variety of techniques and tools, but are not the only topics teachers love to talk about!

Feel free to bring books, magazines, and patterns for teachers to sign!  We will set aside time for this on Sunday.

** Fabric requirements will be sent out a month before Camp. **
